For those fortunate enough to enjoy a three day weekend, what better way to reflect and toast the Presidents of years past than with some fine wine, especially if it’s Michael David!

This Friday marks the 6th Annual Dark and Delicious tasting out in Alameda, CA. Now I know some of you may have your minds in the gutter, but it’s actual appropriately titled because it features over 50 different Petite Sirah producers. Held at the Rock Wall Wine Company, each year this event has become more and more popular. Of course we’ll be there pouring our 2009 Earthquake Petite Sirah and 2009 Petite Petit, two wines that are…. wait for it…. DARK AND DELICIOUS!

Now if you’ve come this far and want to keep going the next day over in San Francisco, Fort Mason will be the hub for over 800 wineries as the 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Public Tasting celebrates its 75th anniversary. Only the best of the best will be on display and once again Michael David will be there pouring such show stoppers as 2010 6th Sense Syrah (Best of Class), 2010 Incognito White (Best of Class), 2010 Earthquake Zin (Double Gold) and 2009 Rapture Cab (Double Gold). A great way to spend an afternoon in one of the best cities in the world.

For more information on both events check the links below, we hope to see you out there!

Seeing some great reviews in the short amount of time since its release, the 2009 vintage 7 Deadly Zins is on track to be the highest rated vintage since the brands launch 9 years ago. Acclaimed critic Robert Parker recently reviewed the Zin and scored it with an outstanding score of 90 points and some great notes! Read below for the full review!

“Even better is the 250,000-case cuvee of 100% Zinfandel, the 7 Deadly Zins 2009. This hugely popular wine spends 12 months in both French and American oak. Sexy and endearing, it offers a deep ruby/purple color, full-bodied, corpulent flavors and abundant berry fruit, pepper and spice notes. Drink this seductive, full throttle, classic Zinfandel over the next several years. Shrewd consumers should be seeking out the offerings from this value-priced winery.”

What’s that I see? Can it be? The first reds of the season! Leading off the reds this year is some Old Vine Zinfandel that has just been hauled in from a 5 acre morsel on the east side of Lodi while 6th generation, Kevin Phillips, watches on. About 3.5 tons per acre, these grapes were picked at 25.8 brix in the field. Only time will tell what Zinfandel program this wine will eventually become a part of. With just a bit of Roussanne left in the vineyards for white varietals the reds are a sure sign harvest is about to get nuts!

Welcome once again all you MD fanatics to our first exciting installment of Harvest 2011! As the morning sun barely peaks over the eastern horizon the Michael David vineyard crew was already long at work hand picking Chardonnay grapes in our Bare Ranch vineyard. Thus beginning their long journey in the wine making process, grapes that will eventually be used for the Bare Ranch sparkler. Row by row the vines were cleared and trucked over in macro bids so they could be pressed at the winery. As you can see in the picture these bundles look pretty inviting, almost like a fluffy cloud you would like to lay on. On deck, Lodi Sauvignon Blanc so stay tuned… same bat channel, same bat time.
